On July 16-19, a High-Level Political Forum on "Transformation towards Sustainable and Resilient Societies" was held in New York, USA, under the organization of the UN Economic and Social Council.

Speaking at the forum, the head of the Azerbaijani delegation, Deputy Minister of Economy Sevinj Hasanova, pointed out that our country attaches great importance to global cooperation. Noting that the issues of development and social welfare are always a priority in the country's policy and that complex measures are implemented in this regard, the deputy minister said that as a result of the successful policy implemented in this area, absolute poverty has decreased by 10 times, the gross domestic product has increased by more than 3 times, and the income of the population has increased by 10 times. the unemployment rate dropped to 5%.

It was noted that for the purpose of successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the UN and public awareness in this field, the Campaign Strategy for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was prepared for Azerbaijan and the Republican Innovation Competition was held.

At the event, it was emphasized that the initial voluntary national report of Azerbaijan on the work done in 2017 in the direction of the implementation of the SDGs was submitted to the UN, and the second report will be submitted in 2019. It was reported that the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development will be held in October 2018 with the participation of government officials and UN representatives in order to strengthen international partnership in order to achieve the SDGs.

Within the framework of the forum, Deputy Minister Sevinc Hasanova, Head of the Regional Center for Europe and the CIS of the United Nations Development Program, Mrs. Cihan Sultanoglu, Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations, and the Sustainable He held bilateral meetings with the head of the Center for Development Mrs. Rosemary Kalapurakal.

The delegation of Azerbaijan participated in the event on the promotion of sustainable economy for the implementation of the 12th Sustainable Development Goal jointly organized by the Republics of Latvia, Estonia and Slovenia within the framework of the High-Level Political Forum, as well as the 10-year international action plan "Water for Sustainable Development" for 2018-2028. participated in the presentation on "SDG: visioning and designing the future", in the high-level political dialogue between international financial and trade institutions and the economic and social council of the UN, and in a number of other events.
