On January 16, a high-level national consultation seminar was held in order to prepare the UN-Azerbaijan Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Document (UNSDCF) for 2021-2025.
In addition to the state officials of Azerbaijan, representatives of resident and non-resident organizations of the UN, as well as the private sector, scientific organizations and civil society institutions participated in the event.
The Chairman of the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ali Ahmadov, who opened the event with his opening speech, informed about the goals arising from the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" and the work done in the direction of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Azerbaijan, Sustainable Development He emphasized that within the framework of the National Coordinating Council, the activities of the relevant institutions are coordinated, Azerbaijan's development priorities are aligned with the SDGs, and the SDGs are taken into account in the state programs and other documents implemented in our country, and the UNSDCF will be important in bilateral cooperation. It was reported that as a result of the work done, Azerbaijan, as the first country in the region, submitted two Voluntary National Reports on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2017 and 2019 to the UN High-Level Political Forum.
Expressing his satisfaction with the development of relations between Azerbaijan and the UN, the resident coordinator of the UN, Ghulam Ishaqzai, expressed confidence that the partnership to achieve the SDGs will continue within the framework of the new five-year document. Ghulam Ishaqzai gave the event participants detailed information about the new framework document and the reforms carried out in the UN development system. The UN Resident Coordinator noted the importance of the private sector and civil society's activity in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in addition to the governments.
Economy Minister Mikayil Jabbarov pointed out that effective cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN has been implemented, that our country actively participates in the UN's global development initiatives, and that a number of important documents have been signed. Emphasizing that the economic successes of our country are highly appreciated by other international organizations, Mikayil Jabbarov noted that Azerbaijan was awarded a special award by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization for its success in the fight against poverty. It was reported that Azerbaijan has joined the new global Sustainable Development Goals Agreement approved by the UN for the period 2016-2030, as a continuation of the UN "Millennium Development Goals" Declaration. The Minister of Economy informed about the "Framework Document on Sustainable Development Cooperation between UN-Azerbaijan for 2021-2025" and emphasized that this document will be based on the principles of "leaving no one behind", human rights, gender equality, sustainable development, sustainability and accountability. , shared his views on the priorities of sustainable development cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN in accordance with medium and long-term development perspectives.
Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population Sahil Babayev, Deputy Minister of Economy Sevinj Hasanova, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Firdovsi Aliyev, UNSDCF's Planning Process Advisor Peter Middlebrook and others participated in the panel discussions on the added values of UN-Azerbaijan Cooperation in achieving the 2030 Agenda. Emphasizing the importance of strengthening the public-private partnership for achieving the SDGs, he informed about the work done in order to fully integrate the goals, targets and indicators identified as a priority for Azerbaijan in the social and ecological perspective into the development agenda, and the rapid development of the new Framework Document on the UN-Azerbaijan Partnership. they emphasized that they will contribute to the reforms.
The event continues with sessions on work to be done within the framework of Azerbaijan-UN cooperation, determination of development priorities, results of the initial UNDSDCF and other topics.
