A high-level "round table" on the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" was held in New York

Within the framework of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, a high-level "round table" on "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as a catalyst for change through partnership" was organized at the UN Headquarters in New York on October 3.

Within the framework of the "round table" of the concept developed by the Republic of Belarus and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), the challenges faced by countries in the process of ensuring sustainable development, new approaches necessary to achieve better results, adaptation of new approaches and tools such issues were discussed.

The event was opened by Elliot Harris, UN Secretary General's assistant for economic development and chief economist. Later, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Vladimir Makei, and the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasiliy Nebenzia, spoke and gave information about the measures implemented in this field in their countries.

Chairman of the State Committee on Family, Women's and Children's Problems, Hijran Huseynova, spoke at the conference and gave detailed information about the work done in the field of protection of women's rights and ensuring gender equality in Azerbaijan, and the results achieved. Hijran Huseynova, who stated that reforms are being carried out in the national legislative system in order to increase the activity and potential of women in our country, said: "National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development meetings are regularly held in Azerbaijan, determination of national priorities and indicators in accordance with Sustainable Development Goals and targets and covering socio-economic areas the process of aligning the state programs and strategies with the SDGs is being continued. In accordance with the action plan of the UN, meetings, symposia, conferences are held with various groups, and a number of other events are organized for the process of raising awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals. Under the organization of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), a conference was held with the participation of 44 countries and various UN agencies to support the process of preparing Voluntary National Reports for 2017 for the High-Level Forum, and Azerbaijan was one of the co-chairs. "Role of science and research in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan", "Sustainable Development Goals: Education can change the world", "The role of civil society in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals", organized by the National Coordinating Council for Sustainable Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijan delegation of the UN Events were held on the theme "Sustainable Development Goals: Women and Development". In order to successfully implement the 2030 Agenda, conduct public awareness and mobilize national, regional and local stakeholders, including civil society, business sector and mass media, the Government of Azerbaijan and the UN Mission in Azerbaijan cover the years 2017-2018. A Campaign Strategy for SDGs has been prepared for Azerbaijan.

The chairman of the committee also specially mentioned the important measures implemented in this field. He said that in order to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, UNDP is implementing a project on "Supporting the Implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals to the Government of Azerbaijan" with the Ministry of Economy (DIMES Secretariat).

Hijran Huseynova gave detailed information about the Baku International Humanitarian Forum on Sustainable Development, which will be held in Baku on October 25-26 this year, and invited high-level persons responsible for SDGs and international experts to this Forum.

First Deputy Secretary General of the UN Amina Mohammad, Deputy Secretary General of the UN and Head of DESA Liu Jenmin, Head of the UN Development Program Akim Steiner and Professor Jeffrey Saksin spoke at the "Round Table".

At the meeting, at the same time, in order to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, the policies implemented in various countries regarding the expansion of women's economic opportunities and ensuring gender equality were discussed.
